This letter was written the evening of October 17, 1943, but Post Marked October 18. Dad is writing this letter while he is on guard duty. (Wonder if this was against the rules?) He mentions that they are getting ready for a 3 week stint in the desert, where they will be firing various types of guns and crawling on their bellies while live rounds are fired over their heads.
This is a story about my Dad, Bruce Dodson. He never would talk much about his time during World War II. Now that he and my Mom have passed, and being their only child, I have had the opportunity to go through all of their mementos. In doing so, I discovered a pile of letters that Dad wrote to his sister during his time in the service. Those letters, coupled with a search of WWII history are the focus of this blog.
